Edmiston ends the year as the best performing brokerage house of 2023

A strong sales record and healthy charter bookings put us in pole position

With 29 yachts sold over 30m in length this year to a value of €550m, Edmiston’s impressive sales record in 2023 equates to an 11% market share of all yacht sales globally in 2023 – more than any other brokerage.

Our market share is even higher when you look at the over 40m segment of the market – with a 16% market share for yachts of this size. We have sold more yachts over €20m in 2023 than any other broker and we have demonstrated our prowess when it comes to Northern European pedigree, having sold 50% of all Feadships over 40m this year.

Alex Koersvelt, Commercial Director at Edmiston, says, “In 2023, we sold 29 yachts, more than any other brokerage globally. This proof of the hard work and diligence of Edmiston’s sales teams, who are second to none when it comes to sourcing opportunities and utilising their connections to bring the right buyers and the right sellers together.

We have seen a rebalancing of the boom of 2021-2022 but are delighted to see that those who have experienced the waters of yachting during this time have returned and are returning to this unique travel experience.

Our sales figures equate to almost seven deals per broker since 2021 – more than double the average of the top brokerage houses, making ours the most efficient sales team in the industry. Since 2021, we’ve sold two-thirds of our fleet, and our brokers sell yachts twice as fast as the industry average.

More evidence that at Edmiston, we don’t just list yachts, we sell them.

Looking forward

We are also happy to report that the charter market is buoyant, with bookings ahead of pre-pandemic levels and a rise in repeat guests looking to book different yachts for different destinations year on year. Popular summer destinations like Greece, the French Riviera and Italy are holding their own alongside emerging destinations like Croatia, while in the winter season, the BVIs, the Bahamas and the East Coast of the US remain popular.

We also predict a focus on milestone events and dining experiences in 2024, to which end we have elevated our food and drink offering by partnering with Crurated, the London-based membership wine community designed to connect connoisseurs with world-class wine producers.

The team is looking forward to developing its strong roster of brand partnerships to ensure that the Edmiston traveller continues to have access to the most sensational experiences when they travel by yacht – from alliances with iconic British events such as the Goodwood Festival of Speed and Goodwood Revival, which appeal to our clients’ desire for sport, speed, and fun, to providing a 360-degree seamless luxury travel experience through our partnership with private aviation authority Gulfstream.

Because at Edmiston, your yachting experience is at the heart of everything we do.

Edmiston supports World’s Toughest Row Atlantic adventurists

We are proud to support former Edmiston employee Tim Hamilton and his family as they take part in the gruelling challenge in aid of Afghan refugees

Setting off on 12 December, the World’s Toughest Row, is a transatlantic challenge that sees 39 teams row 3,000 miles from the Canary Islands to English Harbour, Antigua – an endurance test in which teams will need to spend 35-40 days at sea.

Edmiston is sponsoring The Foar Brothers in the challenge – a team that incudes Tim Hamilton, Lürssen America’s Director, and former Edmiston team member, who is joined by his two brothers and his nephew. The team is undertaking this extraordinary challenge to raise awareness and support for SEND Relief’s crisis management in Afghanistan – a cause close to the family’s heart.

Tim said, “We have a strong connection to the people of Afghanistan with two of us having spent considerable time in the country. Our compassion for their suffering from the war has led us to Send Relief who have dedicated resources to support Afghan refugees. Send Relief is providing relocation services, temporary housing, new skills training, and counsellor support to assist Afghans with settling in the West.

With the team planning to stick to a rigid schedule of two hours rowing, two hours rest, around the clock, they’ve put themselves through a tough training programme over the past two years, which has included lots of rowing, weightlifting, yoga, plus essential seakeeping, first-aid, and ocean-rowing courses.

It’s been a busy couple of years,” Tim said, “And we very are grateful to Edmiston for their support along the way.”

Tim said he was most looking forward to spending time with his brothers and nephew and enjoying the routines and simplicity of being at sea.

However, even before embarking on the expedition, it was clear that Tim already had the finishing line in his sights: “Rowing into English Harbour in Antigua with all the beautiful yachts, and our friends and family there to greet us will no doubt be a moment we will never forget,” he said.

You can support Team Foar in their challenge by donating to their Go Fund Me page.

Edmiston and partners continue to revolutionise the yachting industry

As the year draws to a close, we are honoured to have worked with some of the best in the business in 2023

This year Edmiston continued to seek out smart partnerships to help us achieve our core aims of executing market-defining brokerage deals, crafting the perfect charter experience, and safeguarding the future of yachting for everyone.

Our symbiotic relationship with Gulfstream, one of the biggest names in the aerospace world, for whom we are the sole UK and Channel Islands sales representative, is a case in point.

Gulfstream is the first original equipment manufacturer to fly on 100% sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) and is regarded as having the best fleet of business jets in the world, helping us deliver on our commitment to provide seamless luxury travel packages for our clients, while reducing our impact on the environment.

This has also been a year for Edmiston to let our presence be known at some of the biggest on-brand events.

Edmiston was delighted to secure sponsorship of the 2023 Goodwood Festival of Speed presented by Mastercard, and Goodwood Revival this year.

The coming together of these two iconic British brands reinforces Edmiston’s dedication to generating exciting experiences, that sate our client’s need for speed, sport, and fun.

When it came to boat shows in 2023, our carefully selected collaborations paid dividends by providing the premier service our clients expect from us.

At this year’s Monaco Yacht Show, BMW provided complimentary transfers for our VIP guests in a fleet of its luxury electric saloons i7 cars, while a trio of luxury Wajer 38S tenders, known for their superior performance and handling, helped transport our guests to all corners of the show.

Our guests at Monaco were also able to experience ICON yacht thanks to our collaboration with Tyde.

Wajer also joined us at the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show, where

our long-standing partner Petrossian provided the caviar at our lavish lunches and dinners. At our FLIBS dinners, chefs from the exclusive Ocean Club prepared delicious dishes that were paired with ultra-smooth tequila expressions from small-batch producer Cincoro.

As always, our wine partner for the boat season was Château d’Esclans’ Whispering Angel.

Outside the shows, our partnership with contemporary art experts at the Maddox Gallery gives our clients 360-degree access to the luxury lifestyle, while the gallery’s latest exhibition with photographer David Yarrow aligns well with the freedom yachting provides to reach new places.

Our ongoing work with climate tech business Levidian is helping us achieve our net zero aims, while our collaboration with electric technology company Everrati has resulted in a Land Rover Defender concept that provides a more sustainable form of shoreside transport.

All our London events are partnered with BMW Park Lane to bring our guests to each event, including all Goodwood races and the Global Championship League horse jumping competitions, seamlessly.

As a driver of innovation and change, Edmiston will continue to harvest and invest in our partnerships to nurture a better future for the superyachting world, and all involved, and we look forward to working with these partners and more in 2024.

Edmiston and partners continue to revolutionise the yachting industry
why-buy-yacht-summer-blog-header-image

Why you should buy a yacht before the summer

Join the fleet of yacht owners who have bought through us already this year, and are reaping the benefits of an early-season purchase

Edmiston has sold 10 yachts so far this year, including 50% of the 10 largest yachts sold across the industry in 2023 to date.

Buying early in the year gives Owners the chance to personalise their new yacht and complete any necessary or desirable refit work before the summer season.

And, as many of our recent clients are aware, there’s another major bonus to buying a yacht early in the year: you can make the most of the coming charter season.

Several of our recent sales have since joined or returned to our charter fleet, including the 74m CRN built yacht ANDREA (formerly LADY JORGIA) – the largest motor yacht sold so far this year – which comes with a glassed-bottomed pool and a private terrace.

The largest sailing yacht to be sold this year, SILENCIO, now named PERSEUS, a 50m high-tech Perini Navi with a vast cockpit and packed toy box, is also returning to our charter fleet, while the 50m Heesen yacht DAISY D (formerly WHITE) is entering the charter market for the first time.

The sailing yacht market in 2023 is looking particular following a very successful 2022, the strongest year for sailing yacht sales on record.

If you’re looking to be on the water and sail this summer, make sure you purchase your yacht now. You may want to view the 54m high-performance sailing sloop PINK GIN VI from Baltic Yachts, which has always been kept private, and comes with two stunning fold-down balconies.

In terms of motor yachts in our fleet, the 47m classic Feadship A2 is a timeless superyacht in first class order, with a long-standing crew who have maintained her since her rebuild, while the 29m Benetti yacht ASLAN has just received a substantial price reduction and comes with a very charter-friendly five cabins, including two VIPs. Both yachts are in immaculate condition and ready to go.

Other standout yachts in our sales fleet include the 47m pedigree Feadship KISS, which comes with a private Owner’s deck; and the 2007 34m sports yacht LYNX from Leopard Yachts, which is in impeccable condition having been kept private in her original ownership, and with her shallow draft is ideal for reaching places other yachts can’t – perfect for a summer of island hopping.

Come to Edmiston to buy your next yacht, because at Edmiston, we don’t just list yachts, we sell them.
