Edmiston wins big at the World Superyacht Awards 2019
Two of Edmiston’s stunning superyachts, HAIDA 1929 and PLANET NINE have been recognised in the industry’s ‘Oscars’ – the World Superyacht Awards 2019.
At a lavish ceremony in London’s Billingsgate on Saturday 18 May, HAIDA 1929 was named winner in the highly competitive Rebuilt Yachts category, while PLANET NINE was a finalist in the Displacement Motor Yachts 2,000GT and above category.
This was the 14th annual edition of the World Superyacht Awards, which recognise the ingenuity and innovation that goes into the design, engineering and construction of the finest luxury yachts on the planet, by focusing on the best superyachts launched over the previous year.
There’s no doubt that 2018 was a huge year for HAIDA 1929, with the classic yacht showing off the results of a major rebuild, which sought to accentuate her timeless elegance while ensuring she was given a makeover worthy of modern expectations – a combination that proved irresistible to the judges.
Boat International, which runs the awards, said HAIDA 1929 was a “standout winner”. In explaining the win, it said: “The whole ethos of the work was of respect for the integrity of this historic yacht, a decision that was admired by the judges, who were aware that while an ill-conceived rebuild would have destroyed this classic vessel, one that did not upgrade her interiors to meet modern standards of comfort might be money wasted.”
The clipper-bow yacht was fully restored at the renowned Pendennis shipyard over a period of 18 months, returning to the water at the start of last year. She retains all her 1930s period charm, but is now also equipped with every imaginable modern superyacht luxury, including a spa, hammam, gym equipment, cinemas, a stepped pool – even a barber’s shop.
Meanwhile, fresh from her intrepid adventures in Antarctica, PLANET NINE was nominated in the Displacement 2,000GT and above category.
PLANET NINE is an Ice Class vessel and highly regarded as one of the world’s foremost explorer yachts, with an MD-600N Explorer helicopter, hangar and landing pad listed in her specification.
Despite her astounding all-weather capabilities, PLANET NINE also offers exceptional accommodation on board for up to 12 guests and four crew in nine comfortable cabins, including a separate owner’s deck and a main-deck VIP suite.
With floor-to-ceiling, glass a feature throughout the yacht, one of PLANET NINE’S most awe-inspiring assets is her forward observation lounge, which affords panoramic views, ensuring guests always have a front-row seat, wherever the yacht may take them.
