As Edmiston’s Head of Fleet Operations, Shelley is responsible for the smooth and efficient operation of our fleet. This involves overseeing the day-to-day management of yachts and ensuring they adhere to the highest standards of safety, compliance and performance, along with addressing operational challenges and implementing best practises. Additionally, she plays a crucial role in Owner and Captain relations.

The journey into fleet operations

Shelley has been passionate about the sea from a young age, which naturally led to a career in yachting. She started her professional journey in the early 2000s and landed her first job on a 25-metre sail yacht in the Caribbean, while studying her Ocean Yachtmaster exam. This opportunity was pivotal and set the course for her future in the industry.

Over the next decade, she gained extensive experience at sea, gradually advancing to the rank of captain. Her time at sea provided her with a deep understanding of yacht operations and crew management. After a fulfilling career on the water, she transitioned to a shore-based role as a specialist ISM consultant.

Following this, she was instrumental in setting up a management division for a multi-family office in Monaco, where she oversaw the operational aspects of a fleet of yachts. Eventually, she took on the role of Head of Yacht Management for a company in the UK, further broadening her expertise in yacht management and operations.

Joining Edmiston

“When the opportunity to join Edmiston arose, I was immediately drawn to it. Edmiston is a world-renowned brokerage house with a stellar reputation in the yachting industry. The chance to work with such a prestigious company was incredibly appealing,” says Shelley.

Over the next 18 months, Edmiston’s vision is to establish a robust operational framework that supports the department’s growth and innovation. Headed by Shelley, Edmiston aims to enhance performance through a new structure, streamlined procedures, new management software and utilising best practices in management.

“We’re focused on expanding our fleet size by 25%, which involves strategic acquisitions and partnerships. We also plan to invest in the professional development of our crew, ensuring they have the skills and knowledge to excel in their roles. Ultimately, our goal is to set new standards in yacht management, providing unparalleled service and add value to our clients while maintaining the highest levels of safety and operational efficiency,” says Shelley.
