Edmiston supports World’s Toughest Row Atlantic adventurists

We are proud to support former Edmiston employee Tim Hamilton and his family as they take part in the gruelling challenge in aid of Afghan refugees

Setting off on 12 December, the World’s Toughest Row, is a transatlantic challenge that sees 39 teams row 3,000 miles from the Canary Islands to English Harbour, Antigua – an endurance test in which teams will need to spend 35-40 days at sea.

Edmiston is sponsoring The Foar Brothers in the challenge – a team that incudes Tim Hamilton, Lürssen America’s Director, and former Edmiston team member, who is joined by his two brothers and his nephew. The team is undertaking this extraordinary challenge to raise awareness and support for SEND Relief’s crisis management in Afghanistan – a cause close to the family’s heart.

Tim said, “We have a strong connection to the people of Afghanistan with two of us having spent considerable time in the country. Our compassion for their suffering from the war has led us to Send Relief who have dedicated resources to support Afghan refugees. Send Relief is providing relocation services, temporary housing, new skills training, and counsellor support to assist Afghans with settling in the West.

With the team planning to stick to a rigid schedule of two hours rowing, two hours rest, around the clock, they’ve put themselves through a tough training programme over the past two years, which has included lots of rowing, weightlifting, yoga, plus essential seakeeping, first-aid, and ocean-rowing courses.

It’s been a busy couple of years,” Tim said, “And we very are grateful to Edmiston for their support along the way.”

Tim said he was most looking forward to spending time with his brothers and nephew and enjoying the routines and simplicity of being at sea.

However, even before embarking on the expedition, it was clear that Tim already had the finishing line in his sights: “Rowing into English Harbour in Antigua with all the beautiful yachts, and our friends and family there to greet us will no doubt be a moment we will never forget,” he said.
