Full Description
Exterior Design & Engineering
Designed by Charles E. Nicholson, the MERRYMAID classic sailing yacht was thoroughly rebuilt in 2006 by renowned yard Southampton Yacht Services. They were able to save all of the original elements of her hull and interior and carry out some highly sympathetic reproduction work.
Her 31.4-metre hull is constructed from teak and oak frame. She cruises at a speed of 8.5 knots thanks to her combination of 21st-century systems and rigging and a 256hp Perkins engine.
After her refit, the MERRYMAID yacht owner took her on a three-year circumnavigation, and she became the first gaff cutter to navigate the North West passage. She’s successfully explored many fascinating and remote corners of the earth.
When she returned to Europe, MERRYMAID underwent another refit in 2010. This was a cosmetic overhaul and refresh that brought her back to perfect condition. She’s now based in Palma and, complete with spares for just about everything, she’s ready for her next adventure.
Amenities
This luxury superyacht has a rich and well-documented history that includes a successful racing career, competing against the likes of VALDORA and CREOLE. MERRYMAID even won the King’s Cup in the presence of King Edward VII .
She found a new owner in 1919, and once her original rig was restored, she raced against yachts like BRITANNIA and LULWORTH. Another owner bought MERRYMAID in 1929 and raced her until the outbreak of the Second World War. She has great potential on the regatta circuits of today.
Interior Design
The interior of the MERRYMAID yacht sleeps six people in three en-suite cabins boasting mainly original cabinetry. There’s also space for six crew.
It’s a very classic interior that blends wood panelling and dark leather upholstery with touches of brass and golden highlights . The main salon is home to a pair of leather sofas that face each other across an antique coffee table, with a fireplace to the side. It leads down to another salon with a sofa and day bed blow a spacious skylight.
