The most eco-friendly superyachts in the world
Superyachts have long been trailblazers in luxury innovation. Now, as that innovation is increasingly driven by sustainability, we explore new ways to reduce our environmental impact, protecting both our cruising grounds and the joy of being on the water for generations to come.
Edmiston has consistently been at the forefront of this charge, aligning with some of the most exciting superyacht projects the world has ever known. These projects have seen Owners and shipyards embrace eco-conscious technologies to produce a new class of eco-friendly superyacht, as showcased with the groundbreaking PROJECT 821.

Feadship Project 821: A new era in sustainable yachting
Edmiston is committed to promoting environmentally responsible yachting, which is why we took the lead in commissioning PROJECT 821, which sets a new benchmark for superyacht design.
Built by Feadship and designed by RWD, this eco-friendly superyacht is the world’s first hydrogen fuel-cell superyacht and pushes the possibilities of what can be achieved with sustainable power beyond our wildest imaginations.
Edmiston has been involved with PROJECT 821 since its inception five years ago when we were approached by the Owner with a brief to create the most environmentally advanced yacht the world has ever seen, with no compromising.
Feadship’s pioneering zero-emission approach to propulsion includes hydrogen fuel cell technology that allows yachts to cruise from harbour to anchorage with no need for diesel and the yacht’s hotel load to run off emission-free power.
Heralding a new era of superyacht design, PROJECT 821 yacht marks the first time hydrogen fuel cell technology has been used in the maritime sector.
Jan-Bart Verkuyl, Director of Feadship and CEO of the Royal Van Lent Shipyard, says it’s a sign of things to come and one step closer to Feadship’s pledge to develop net-zero yachts by 2030.
“We have now shown that cryogenic storage of liquified hydrogen in the interior of a superyacht is a viable solution,” he says, “Future innovations on fuel cells and onboard reforming of methanol to hydrogen are on the near horizon.”
And it doesn’t stop there. Feadship’s commitment to recyclable and sustainable materials is evident throughout and complemented by RWD’s low-impact PROJECT 821 interior. Yet, the brief to not compromise has clearly still been met with showstopping features such as a semi-submerged Neptune lounge and an 8.2-metre contraflow pool and unobstructed views, all offering an undeniably luxurious experience.
These features, combined with cutting-edge green tech and Feadship’s signature craftsmanship result in a yacht that offers exceptional performance, luxury, efficiency and is without doubt one of the most technologically advanced and eco-conscious superyachts ever built.
With initial sea trials completed and Feadship PROJECT 821 yacht due to be delivered later in 2025, one thing’s for sure, it has set a new benchmark for sustainable yachting and will be influential in terms of future designs for many years to come.

Tankoa Project Secret: A leader in hybrid yacht design
With a design that was penned by Philippe Briand, who has been awarded ‘best yacht design of the year’ no fewer than 15 times, and naval architecture by Vitruvius Yachts, PROJECT SECRET perfectly encapsulates the synergy between art and engineering excellence.
It features advanced waste and water treatment systems that minimise the environmental impact, while her energy-efficient design features an optimised hull shape for lower fuel consumption.
As well as a sleek look it further boasts performance busting propulsion in the form of a hybrid parallel propulsion system which delivers fuel savings of up to 59% without ever compromising on performance.
In addition to its reassuring green credentials, PROJECT SECRET superyacht still maintains a high-level of luxury throughout, with modern interiors by Italian design studio FM Architettura, and a waterside pool on the aft deck creating a large, open beach club setup thanks to fold-down balconies.
Meanwhile, retractable glazing in the formal dining area creates a seaside dining experience – perfect for enjoying quiet, off-the-beaten track anchorages, which guests can do without disturbing the wildlife thanks to the silent cruising offered.

Feadship Project Fun: Future Proof Yacht Design
Effortlessly elegant and meticulously engineered, PROJECT FUN represents the very best of Feadship’s next-generation thinking – where sustainability, sophistication, and entertainment converge.
Set for delivery in March 2026, this 49.5-metre aluminium yacht is a triumph of forward-thinking design. Naval architecture comes courtesy of De Voogt, whose team also shaped her dynamic exterior lines while the interiors, by acclaimed designer Marty Lowe, are serene, modern, and seamlessly connected to the outdoors.
At her core, PROJECT FUN champions efficient, low-impact cruising with a diesel-electric propulsion system, supported by Corvus Orca lithium-ion batteries, which reduce engine load during high energy use (peak shaving). This innovation allows for a notable reduction in generator use, significantly lowering fuel consumption, emissions, and onboard noise – all without compromising performance. She cruises at 12 knots, with a transatlantic range of 4,000 nautical miles at 10 knots.
Her eco credentials are further strengthened by Tier III-compliant engines, which significantly cut harmful nitrogen oxide emissions in protected waters known as Emission Control Areas (ECAs). Additionally, electric CMC stabilisers reduce movement and use less power, both at anchor and when underway.
True to her name, PROJECT FUN pairs technical innovation with a spirit of effortless enjoyment. Her exterior decks are thoughtfully designed for recreation and leisure—from the sun-drenched jacuzzi on the main deck aft to the expansive sun deck, where guests can enjoy a built-in bar, barbecue, and multiple lounge areas featuring split-level U-shaped seating and generous sun pads. Teak decking and soft, contemporary furnishings evoke a relaxed beach house feel, while fold-down platforms at the stern extend over the water transform the space into a refined and expansive beach club.
