Edmiston Classic Yacht Team enjoy regatta success
Les Voiles de St Tropez enjoyed some good sailing and a fine selection of yachts this year, with the Edmiston Classic Yacht Team in the thick of the action.
Competing aboard his own yacht, the 48ft Souter-built OUTLAW, Edmiston's Mike Horsley won his class in St Tropez. Supported ably by his wife, two daughters and son, Mike's crew of 10 enjoyed tough but useful race conditions, with OUTLAW excelling in the strong winds.
Mike and OUTLAW have had a busy and highly successful race season, competing in seven regattas and enjoying five podium finishes, coming forth in the other two.
Looking back on his class win Mike said, "This year in St Tropez we experienced ideal conditions for Outlaw. She was built for Sir Max Aitkin, son of Lord Beaverbrook of Daily Mail fame. She led the British Admirals Cup team to victory in her first year of 1963, and was actually built for the Fastnet race, and so excels in the strong winds usually found in the Irish Sea. I enjoy all the regattas, but St Tropez is special, with its incredible concentration of classic and modern sail yachts and its backdrop of the most famous fishing village in the world.”
