WEBSITE COOKIE POLICY

We use cookies and similar technologies on our website www.edmiston.com to ensure the site functions properly, to understand how visitors interact with it, and to support our marketing activities.

For your convenience, the key points are summarised below:

  • What cookies are: small text files placed on your device when you visit a website, which allow the site to recognise your device and store certain information about your preferences or past actions.
  • Categories we use: strictly necessary cookies (always active), analytics cookies, and marketing cookies.
  • Your choices: when you first visit our website, our consent management platform displays a banner allowing you to make choices about which cookies you accept. You can change your preferences at any time via the cookie settings link in the footer of our website.
  • Default position: unless you actively click “Accept all” or otherwise actively consent to specific cookie categories via our consent banner, only strictly necessary cookies are placed on your device.
  • Third parties: certain cookies are placed by third-party service providers (such as Google, Meta, LinkedIn, Hotjar) acting on our behalf. These vendors process data subject to their own privacy policies, which we list in Section 6.
  • International transfers: some of our cookie service providers are located outside the EEA, the UK or Monaco. Section 7 explains the safeguards in place.
  • Your rights: in addition to controlling cookies via the banner, you also have rights under data protection law, as described in our Website Privacy Notice.

This overview is provided for clarity and convenience only. For full details, please refer to the sections below

1. Scope of this Cookie Policy

This Cookie Policy applies to the website www.edmiston.com (the “Website”) operated by Edmiston & Company Ltd. as data controller under our Website Privacy Notice and its group entities (collectively, “Edmiston”, “we”, “us” or “our”).

This Cookie Policy should be read together with our Website Privacy Notice, which describes how we process personal data more generally, and which explains your rights and how to contact our Data Protection Officer.

In the event of any inconsistency between this Cookie Policy and the Website Privacy Notice in relation to cookies, this Cookie Policy prevails.

2. What are cookies and similar technologies

Cookies are small text files that are placed on your device (computer, tablet, smartphone) when you visit a website. They are widely used to make websites work, to make them work more efficiently, and to provide information to the owners of the site.

In this Cookie Policy, the term “cookies” also covers similar technologies that store or read information on your device, such as local storage objects, pixels, tags and software development kits (SDKs).

Cookies may be:

  • First-party cookies: placed directly by Edmiston, and only readable by us; or
  • Third-party cookies: placed by service providers acting on our behalf, who may read them from their own domains.

Cookies may also be:

  • Session cookies: deleted automatically when you close your browser; or
  • Persistent cookies: which remain on your device for a defined period (set out in the cookie inventory in the Annex) or until you delete them.

3. Categories of cookies we use

We classify the cookies used on our Website into the following categories:

  • 3.2. Strictly Necessary Cookies: These cookies are essential for the Website to function and cannot be switched off. They are usually set in response to actions you take, such as setting your privacy preferences, logging in, or filling in forms. They include cookies used by our consent management platform (consentmanager), cookies used to protect the site against automated traffic and abuse (Cloudflare, Google reCAPTCHA), and certain LinkedIn cookies necessary for embedded platform functionality.
    • Legal basis: legitimate interest in ensuring the security, integrity and proper functioning of the Website (Article 6.f) GDPR), and, where required, compliance with our legal obligation to record your consent choices (Article 6.c) GDPR). No consent is required for these cookies under applicable privacy laws, as they are strictly necessary for the operation of the Website or for the provision of a service expressly requested by you.
  • 3.2. Analytics Cookies: These cookies allow us to count visits and traffic sources so we can measure and improve the performance of our Website. They help us to understand which pages are the most and least popular, to see how visitors move around the Website, and to record session activity and heatmaps to improve user experience. We use service providers including Google Analytics, Hotjar and Smartlook for these purposes, alongside certain first-party analytics cookies set directly by Edmiston.
    • Legal basis: your consent, given via our consent banner (Article 6.a) GDPR).
  • 3.3. Marketing Cookies: These cookies are used to track visitors across websites in order to display advertisements that are relevant and engaging to individual users, to measure the effectiveness of our advertising campaigns, and to support retargeting. They include cookies set by Google Ads, Google Tag Manager, Facebook (Meta) and LinkedIn, as well as certain first-party attribution cookies set directly by Edmiston (such as utm parameters and campaign identifiers).
    • Legal basis: your consent, given via our consent banner (Article 6.a) GDPR).

4. Your choices and how to manage cookies

  • 4.1. Our consent banner: When you first visit our Website, our consent management platform (operated by consentmanager) displays a banner that allows you to make choices about the cookies we use:
    • If you click “Accept all”, you consent to all categories of cookies (strictly necessary, analytics and marketing) being placed on your device.
    • If you deselect any of the category boxes before confirming your choices, the cookies in the deselected categories will not be placed on your device.
    • If you take no action and leave the banner unanswered, no cookies are placed on your device other than strictly necessary cookies.
    • You can change your cookie preferences at any time by clicking the cookie settings link available in the footer of our Website.
  • 4.2. Browser control: Most web browsers also allow you to control cookies through their settings. You can configure your browser to refuse all or some cookies, or to alert you when cookies are being set. If you disable or refuse cookies through your browser, please note that some parts of the Website may become inaccessible or may not function properly. Information on how to manage cookies in the main browsers is available at:
    • Google Chrome: https://support.google.com/chrome/answer/95647
    • Mozilla Firefox: https://support.mozilla.org/kb/cookies-information-websites-store-on-your-computer
    • Apple Safari: https://support.apple.com/guide/safari/manage-cookies-sfri11471/mac
    • Microsoft Edge: https://support.microsoft.com/microsoft-edge
  • 4.3. Withdrawing your consent: You may withdraw your consent at any time, with effect for the future, by changing your preferences via the cookie settings icon at the bottom of the website. Withdrawing your consent will not affect the lawfulness of any processing carried out on the basis of your consent before its withdrawal.
  • 4.4. Opt-out from specific advertising vendors: In addition to the controls described above, you may opt out of personalised advertising from certain vendors directly via:
    • Google Ad Settings: https://adssettings.google.com
    • Meta (Facebook) ad preferences: https://www.facebook.com/adpreferences
    • Your Online Choices (EU): https://www.youronlinechoices.eu
    • Digital Advertising Alliance (US): https://optout.aboutads.info

5. Cookies in detail

A comprehensive list of cookies used on the Website, including each cookie’s name, the domain it is set from, its category, its purpose, its duration and the vendor responsible, is set out in the Annex [link] to this Cookie Policy.

The list of cookies is reviewed and updated periodically. The version applicable at any given time is the one published on our Website.

6. Third-party vendors

Certain cookies are placed by third-party vendors acting on our behalf. These vendors process data about you subject to their own privacy policies, which we encourage you to consult. The principal vendors are:

7. International transfer

Some of the third-party vendors listed in Section 6 are established outside the EEA, the UK or Monaco, or process data through infrastructure located outside these jurisdictions. In particular:

  • Google, Meta and LinkedIn may transfer data to the United States.
  • Cloudflare may route traffic through servers located in various jurisdictions globally.

Where such transfers occur, they are based on appropriate safeguards as required by applicable data protection laws, including:

  • The EU-US Data Privacy Framework (and its UK Extension, where applicable), where the vendor is certified under it;
  • The Standard Contractual Clauses adopted by the European Commission on 4 June 2021 (Decision 2021/914); or
  • The UK International Data Transfer Agreement (IDTA) or the International Data Transfer Addendum.

Further information about the safeguards applicable to a specific vendor is available from our Data Protection Officer (see Section 9).

8. Retention

Each cookie has its own duration, which is specified in the cookie inventory in the Annex. Strictly necessary cookies are retained for as long as required to perform their function. Analytics and marketing cookies are retained for the duration indicated, or until you withdraw your consent, whichever occurs first.

Any personal data collected via cookies is retained in accordance with the retention principles set out in our Website Privacy Notice (Section 8 thereof).

9. Contact and your rights

If you have any questions about this Cookie Policy, or if you wish to exercise any of your data protection rights in relation to the data collected through cookies (including the right to access, rectification, erasure, restriction, objection, portability, or to withdraw your consent), please contact our Data Protection Officer at:

You also have the right to file a complaint with the supervisory authority, as described in Section 11 of the Website Privacy Notice.

10. Changes to this Cookie Policy

We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time, in particular to reflect changes in the cookies we use, in applicable laws, or in regulatory guidance. The version applicable at any given time is the one published on our Website, and we recommend that you check this Cookie Policy periodically.
