Built by Perini Navi and delivered in 2002, 52m SQUALL represents a defining collaboration with Dubois Naval Architects, combining two of the most respected names in sailing yacht design. Extensively refitted in 2026, including a full paint programme and comprehensive rig refit, she remains one of the most distinctive and performance-driven yachts to emerge from the Perini fleet.
With sleek, sporting lines by Dubois Naval Architects and a minimalist interior by Rémi Tessier, SQUALL marked a bold new direction for the yard at launch. Her lightweight aluminium construction, trans-oceanic capability and dynamic sailing performance continue to set her apart today.
Full Description
Exterior Design & Engineering
SQUALL is a high-performance cruising ketch with exterior design by Perini Navi and naval architecture by Dubois Naval Architects. Long, low and balanced in profile, she combines the classic proportions of a sailing yacht with a sharper, more athletic character than earlier Perini designs.
Constructed with an aluminium hull and superstructure, SQUALL marked a departure from the yard’s traditional steel construction, reducing displacement and creating a more performance-oriented sailing yacht. Her lightweight build is paired with a deep fin and bulb keel and a carbon fibre ketch rig by Marten Spars, reinforcing her performance-focused design and trans-oceanic capability
Powered by a 1,397 Hp Caterpillar 3412E diesel engine, SQUALL reaches a top speed of 14 knots and cruises comfortably at 13 knots, with a range of 3,900 nautical miles.
Amenities
SQUALL’s deck arrangement has been designed to balance the exhilaration of sailing with the comfort expected of a world-class cruising yacht. The main deck centres around a refined pilothouse that serves as both a command station and a social hub. Large windows flood the interior with natural light, while the open-plan salon and adjoining bar create an atmosphere that is calm, contemporary and inviting.
Aft, the covered alfresco dining area offers a sheltered setting for long lunches and relaxed evenings on board. Surrounded by uninterrupted sea views and framed by SQUALL’s elegant sailing rig, the space is perfectly suited to entertaining while remaining closely connected to the experience of being under sail. Generous deck areas provide ample room for lounging and observing the yacht in motion, whether crossing open water or anchored in quieter bays.
Interior Design
The interior of SQUALL yacht was conceived by French designer Rémi Tessier, whose Paris-based studio created a contemporary, minimalist aesthetic that remains distinctive more than two decades after launch. Moving away from more traditional sailing yacht interiors, Tessier introduced open spaces, clean lines and a restrained material palette throughout. The result is an understated interior that continues to set SQUALL apart from many of her contemporaries.
Warm walnut joinery paired with wenge detailing creates depth and contrast throughout the guest spaces, while carefully integrated lighting and expansive glazing enhance the sense of openness on board.
SQUALL yacht accommodates up to 10 guests across five cabins. Positioned aft for added privacy, the split-level full-beam Master suite features a private desk area and a bathtub ensuite, combining generous proportions with Rémi Tessier’s understated contemporary style. The guest cabins comprise two double and two twins, each with ensuite, which continue the same clean-lined aesthetic, offering comfortable accommodation for family and friends on extended voyages. Additionally, there is accommodation for a crew of up to nine.
